In the lumber industry, productivity demands are staggering; output is normally measured in lugs per minute - a unit that describes how promptly a machine processeslogs and boards. OEMs and lumber-processing end users also need machinery which is able stand up to sawmill conditions where temperatures change, dust severely damages machinery. A lumbermill may be equipped with planing, molding, tenoning, and other pieces of equipment for finishing processes. The largest sawmills are usually located where lumber can be delivered by river or rail, and the design of a sawmill is dependent upon the type of transportation. Among necessary machines there are a lot of types of saws, side trimming shears, woodworking machinery. In this article we will focus on types of saws. Saws are classified into hand-held and mechanically powered. Handsaws have more than ten different types. A rip saw and a cross cut saw are common types. They are both used for cutting wood. Mechanical saws are classified into three main groups determined by how they move the blade into the wood. Woodworkers distinguish circular blade saws, reciprocating blade saws and continuous band saws. A CIRCULAR SAW is a blade with saw teeth on the edge as well as the machine which makes the disk spin. It may be handheld or stationary. It can also be deployed to produce narrow slots. Now circular saws are automatically powered. In RECIPROCATING BLADE SAWS, there are jigsaws, which are ordinarily handheld, and are commonly used in woodworking to cut out shapes. Reciprocating saws can be fitted with blades for wood or metal. They are more powerful than jigsaws. A BANDSAW is a power instrument which uses a blade consisting of a continuous band of metal with teeth on one edge to cut diverse workpieces. The band rides on two wheels revolving in the same direction. Bandsawing produces a uniform cutting action due to an evenly distributed tooth load. Bandsaws are deployed for woodworking and are especially useful for cutting curved shapes, but can also be used to produce straight cuts. The radius of a curve that can be cut with a particular saw is dependent upon the width of the band and its lateral flexibility.
